Chapter 306 - March 2023
TX2K23
BikiniRacer is Back!
(not that she went anywhere...we just did REALLY well this year!!!)

Lots of unique things about this year’s event! We knew this was the last in Houston, but we learned that our new home is a few hundred miles north, just outside Dallas. While there was some really good racing, we also lost a full day to rain. Rain at 2K is always interesting because on one hand all the haters online cry and moan…the way they tell it, the event is an epic dumpster fire and a disaster. Meanwhile, at the event, good friends who only see each other once a year get bonus time to go have a long lunch together, go shoot skeet, play pool, hit up TopGolf, etc. They come back with epic stories and renewed friendships as the h8ters post drama. It is hilarious that it is such an epic dichotomy.

Dakota and Louis used a Garrett core...all custom after that!
However, for us, the biggest thing for TX2K is Anna took the StockTwins Supra record!! For the racing masses this does not mean much, but to the “OG Supra Crowd”, this is a SRS BZNS BIG DEAL. Basically StockTwins means just that…the car still has the stocktwin turbochargers. These turbos limit power since they are small. Typically folks quickly remove them and put on big twins or a big single and go very fast. Back in the day there was a StockTwins class at a lot of events (some of which Anna won!) and, of course, over time that has dwindled. Yes a lot of folks still run them, but not enough show up to make it a class, so we go play in Exhibition and Peter (Mr TX2K) lets us play there because A) Anna’s attended since TX2K01 and B) we work the event. Huge thank you Peter!

Heading back from GSpeed...hat tip to MFW for the trailer!!!
Yes, on the trip TONS of folks pace the car taking snaps and at my one fuel stop three folks stopped in.

Stock, the TT Supra was good for a 13.5 quarter at about 106mph. From the factory the turbos are sequential, so only 1 turbo is online at low rpm and then at mid-range the second comes online. We do some waste gate mod (….wire…it….closed) and run the turbos in parallel. It takes a bit longer to build boost (not too long tho…small turbskis) but we get both fully in sooner and that helps. The trans is the stock Toyota A340, built by BoostLogic. They firm up the 1-2 and 2-3 shift and put in a looser convertor. This means more rpm before it engages, so Anna leaves the line with more rpm and more rpm means more boost. Since we are horsepower limited, we need to leave the line with as much boost in hand since our 60’ time (the first 60’ from the starting line) is so critical.

But that's what it takes to be ready for hundreds of racers! #DoItFor2K #SnipSnip
That snap is only about 1/3 of the graphics.... ooof!
The next big mod is the intercooler. We’ve taken off the big front mount air-to-air that we run on the street and replaced it with an air-to-water. The good folks at GSpeed custom built us an A2W using a YUUUGE Garrett core along with the associated (very short!) piping and sensors. Speaking of GSpeed, they also connected us to a custom double adjustable damper set that helps a ton. On the dyno it is cool to see the car quickly squat under power and stay there for a bit and then slooooowly rise back up. And since we’re on the GSpeed topic, their tuner Jon is a wizard on the keys. He tunes some of the fastest drag cars in the country as well as a ton of roadracing cars too. He worked the keys with the Supra on the hub dyno and found very good power for us to use while also helping out on the cold-start and idle to keep it nice. The AEM V2 was, like so much, sourced from Dusty at MVP. Dusty is an OG Supra guy for sure and his company, MVP Motorsports has been around 25+ years. Dusty is always our first call (and should be yours too!) because he is so knowledgeable, won’t be undersold, and most critically he supports our community! Why buy from some fleabay seller or a random FB person when the price from Dusty will likely be as good or better, PLUS he supports our community. Folks, we’ve got to support those who support us and I can’t fathom why MVP is not your first call. </off soapbox>
A few years back the tired stock motor had hundreds (and hundreds) of passes plus 90+ thousand miles and it gave up….so we had James Ward of Ward Auto Racing (WAR!!) freshen the motor (with parts from MVP!!!) and we’ve been very happy with it. It’s still a wet sump, still has AC and power steering and a stock intake! It idles great, doesn’t use oil and clearly makes good power! Topping
off the motor is a fresh (5000 mile!!) set of zero-shaft-play stock twins we got
from Peter (Mr TX2K) when he swapped one of his low-mile cars to a big single.
Huge thank you James and Peter!!!

Left: Check out the pulley size!! Right: It was buy-one-get-one in the wastegate isle!!!
That’s it for the major mods….and we’ve done a ton of small things as well. Some we share, some we keep close to the vest. Anna and I both have been racing a long time and with a ton of research and a lot of trial-and-error we’ve learned stuff. Some of it even helps! (LOL).
So I scoot down to TX2K on Tuesday to kick this party off. Wednesday we start the roll racing and it continues through Thursday and we finish it Thursday afternoon and the off and on drizzle hits. We completely lose Friday to the rain but Saturday we’re back on track. Late in the day we make a pass but get some spin off the line to a 1.65 short time on the way to a 10.67 at 128mph. We’re happy with the MPH especially into the headwind, but the spin off the line killed us. Sunday we make a hit later in the day and with a 1.62 short time we hit a 10.62, only .03 off the record. Argh. We typically get a 1.49-1.52 short time so we’re struggling getting out of the hole.

Finally, late in the day with the sun almost down, we line up for one more. We drop the launch RPM a bit and the car just glides out of the hole with only a baby quarter-rotation tire spin and it scoots on down the track. She puts down a 1.53 60’ and I cross my fingers listening to that guttural straight-6 sound (solo pass!) as she clicks off two quick shifts and boom, the clocks show 10.500 and instantly I grin. She traps at 128.96mph into an easy 15mph headwind, but we did get the negative DA help since the air is at -532’!!!

An *awful lot* of effort went into this screengrab and timeslip... #IfYouKnowYouKnow
TT Supra Stock Twin Record = Achieved!
HUGE
HUGE HUGE thanks to: GSpeed crew of Louis, Dakota, Chase and Jon!!
MVP Motorsports - Dusty should be your first call!!!!
Dave Jusko and Ryan Hawkins and the MKIV.com gang!
Richard Homer!
James Ward of WAR!

I’m not sure what is next…we both feel the car has more time in it and we can lower the record, but for the moment we’ll simply smile and be awfully happy that she snagged the record…and worry about next steps some other time.
Now….please enjoy the usual TX2K update and all the rando pics I snap!
