WDMS Chapter 182        March 2011

ANATOMY OF A LOW 11 ! ! ! ! !

Part of the cool thing about having a data acquisition system is putting it on different vehicles to record data and see what is going on. My trusty DL1 has been on tons of cars (and karts!!) but it has never made a dedicated quarter mile pass so at TX2K11 Drag Day I put it in Anna's Supra along with my ChaseCam to get video and this is what I've found after going through the data. First off, it was nowhere near the conditions where she ran a 10.98 last year with the same setup, in fact this run was made with a headwind of 20mph with gusts over 30 and it was also pretty warm. However, this does give you an idea of what happens on an 11.2 second pass (1.58 60-foot) at 123 mph!!

So, she can hit 60 from a standstill in 3 seconds flat and 91 mph in 6 seconds flat. Yikes!! Even at 120mph (with a serious headwind), the car is still pulling .15g. Nice.

Left: Note those flags! Direct headwind down the track :-(           Right: Rear tire hooking hard and unloading the front end.

Above: Before the rears can hook their best, gotta heat them nice and then get right in the grove. That's me behind the car to line her up via radios.

Above: Hmmm...I've pulled data on Scratcher too...I wonder what would win in a 60-120mph drag race ....  :-)
